Fair Haven Flood Remediation Receives State Award

C2AE is pleased to announce that the Village of Fair Haven, New York, has received another award from the American Public Works Association (APWA)—this time at the state level!

Because most shoreline infrastructure is designed to prevent flooding based on historical water levels, unpredictable weather due to climate change has put many communities at particular risk of flooding. In 2019, Fair Haven partnered with C2AE to repair flood damage on six public sites along the waterfront. Not only did C2AE’s work restore the damaged infrastructure, but it also introduced climate-resilient design techniques to help the community withstand future flood events.

The improvements at Fair Haven were made possible through the New York Resiliency & Economic Development Initiative (REDI). The Lake Ontario REDI Commission has committed $300 million to support communities with flood damage along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River since 2019.

The Village of Fair Haven received the 2023 Disaster Relief/Emergency Preparedness Award from the APWA Central New York Chapter in January. It was one of three REDI projects in the chapter to be honored. On March 21, the APWA New York State Chapter honored Fair Haven with the New York State Chapter Award, making this the only REDI project to receive a state award.

Congratulations to Fair Haven and the project team for winning this prestigious award!
